Cygnus NG-10, also known as CRS-10, was the eleventh flight of the Northrop Grumman uncrewed resupply spacecraft Cygnus and its tenth flight to the International Space Station (ISS) under the Commercial Resupply Services contract with NASA. Included in its payload was a Micro-gRx lab on a chip experiment assisted by Astronaut Serena Auñón-Chancellor on the ISS.
The exploratory project yielded an opportunity for Dr. Malany and her team to prepare and test a first of its kind lab-on-a-chip process from concept to completion via the ISS. The results open up a new gateway for automated cell culture and imaging of the microfluidic chip when live human cells are present, thus advancing lab-on-a-chip technologies in space. The mission launched on November 17, 2018.
